I'm definitely in favor of supporting .tar.gz and .tar.bz2 formats for
roms. I've toyed with the idea of implementing it myself, but hadn't
gotten around to doing it yet.
Speaking of xmame, I've put an unofficial build of 0.37b9 in my ftp
directory:
ftp://ftp.aros.net/pub/users/gold/xmame-0.37b9.1-UNOFFICIAL.tar.bz2
This doesn't include the latest MESS, and frontends will most likely not
work with this version. I only converted part of fronthlp.c, and I don't
even know if I did it correctly. But Ms. Pac-Man seems to run!
