I change DISPLAY_METHOD to SDL on i386, this execute well

Don't modify the makefile.

Just do:
make -f makefile.unix DISPLAY_METHOD=SDL

Everything is OK.

The only thing you need to do is that make sure sdl-config in
installed in your machine.
