I was trying to figure out why my Logitech Rumblepad 2 wouldn't function in xmame and came across previous postings here that mentioned the same problem. Namely that the buttons work, but all joystick axes (two analog joystick and the d-pad for 6 axes total) didn't do anything in xmame. This was noted back in May/June 2006 and revisited a few months ago. After poking around a little more, I discovered on this site: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Joystick_Setup a possible solution. The site states that jscalibration exits messily resulting in the problem noted above. The proposed solution was to remove the kernel module (joydev on Ubuntu) and then plug the device in again. This should automatically load the module. Then don't run jscalibration! I followed these instructions, and voila! Working gamepad in xmame. I also run amd64 as does the previous poster experiencing this problem. I googled this bug a few different ways, but did not find it reported anywhere else. I could find nothing like a bug reporting facility on jscalibration's home page. So, in summary: working buttons but not working joystick on gamepad in xmame? Think about bug in jscalibration and try fresh load of joystick kernel module, especially for x86_64/amd64. By the way, you've got to love gentoo's documentation, and I like xmame quite a bit. I'm sorry to see that development has ceased. Dave _______________________________________________ Xmame mailing list Xmame@toybox.twisted.org.uk http://toybox.twisted.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/xmame
