use a more recent version of apple's formatter, it will do third party drives, there is
also a hack for older versions of the apple formatter to make it do other drives.  i've
played with fwb a little bit, frankly i didn't like it.  i usually use silverlining, 
but i
have used lido though it was a long time ago and i don't remember if it does hfs+.  
(there
is one model of mac that won't work with silverlining drivers, though i forget which as
i've never owned that particular model).
