Subject: Re: 128mb simms for Nubus I would dearly like to know how that one company knew to build a 256 MB module specifically for the 6100. What do they know that we don't and how did they find out? Can you email them?>> ---------------------------------------------------- >From this link: http://www.edgememory.com/contact/support/ the Email address is: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I suspect they are no longer making or supporting these SIMMs. <<Well, you could always go back to the SIMM Doubler idea. A google search on SIMMverter (one brand) turns up many hits that might be helpful.>> ---------------------------------------------------- Yes, definitely worth pursuing. I didn't know they are called SIMMvert. I tried searches of SIMM doubler, SIMM adapter and SIMM expander with no luck. SIMMvert works. Thanks <<A few experiments suggest themselves, starting with mapping the connections between the SIMM socket and the HMC chip with an ohmmeter. Also, changing the ID on a 6100 board to make it look like a 7100 (however that's done) and see if memory support changes.>> ------------------------------------------------------ I tried using the "Wish I were..." control panel and extension which provides a method for a system to identify its hardware as another hardware type, via the Gestalt "mach" selector. Setting this to 7100/60 after restarting APS identified my 6100 as a 7100, Machine ID 112. The actual ID is 75 for the 6100 series. APS and "About this Computer" window both indicated 264 MB of physical RAM is present. The ROM version with or without Wish I Were remained $77D.20F2 in the 6100. Then I started up my stock 7100/66. APS displayed the machine ID as 112. I was surprised to see it also indicated the same $77D.20F2 ROM version as the 6100. Does it make sense tnd use it as my sig line....>> I hear ya' :-). --glen -- 1st-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
