Now
the screen glows green on startup. I replaced the PRAM battery but never
reset a CUDA switch (if there even is one on this model) so I wonder if
weakening battery contributes to off-color appearance or whether the
original monitor is showing its age. Any clues before I try to run down
another monitor to try?

What about re-installing the colorsync/monitor software?
