I need some help. I just bought a 7100/80 motherboard to replace my 7100/66
motherboard. I replaced it according to specs and put in all my stuff just
like it was in the 7100/66. However, I get no tone on bootup. The hardrive
does spin. But there is no tone and no monitor signals. It just hangs.

Is the motherboard bad or is there something else I can try. I'm open to
suggestions.

Pull all your NuBus cards. Remove any RAM that you have installed (there's 8 MB on the motherboard). Disconnect all SCSI cables, internal and external and unplug the floppy drive (though I've never heard of a bad floppy preventing boot). Make sure that there is something in the PDS slot to terminate it. Remember, the X100 series requires a terminating device in the PDS slot. This can be an HPV card, AV card, termination card (little simple-minded card), or a G3 upgrade. Make sure that the speaker is properly connected.

Now try it. All you're after at this juncture is the start up tone. If you don't get that, then there is something wrong with the motherboard.

The battery will not make one iota of difference on the 7100, Q650, C650, IIci, IIvx, nor the IIvi. Dead battery, live battery, it's irrelevant on these and many other models. The machines on which hte battery matters are mostly the Q605 and PM6100 and related models.

In the test configuration listed above, the model of the power supply will not matter. The difference in power draw between a 7100/66 and a 7100/80 is less than a single NuBus card would draw. No NuBus cards--plenty of power margin for the 7100/80 vs the 7100/66. I'm dubious whether the model of power supply ever matters. I've seen conflicting info on whether they all have the same wattage rating or not.
