Speakable items

I have System 9.1 on a Performa 6116CD. I cannot use the Speakable 
Items because the computer doesn't seem to recognize the microphone. 
I am using a standard Mac mike. Is there something I should know?

Also, possibly off topic, but does a Zip 100plus drive have internal 
SCSI termination? The Iomega site had no info along those lines.
