How many drives can I put in an 8100? I am willing to take out the

CD sitso top. Two other qualifiable slots tha'll accept a sled, for a total of 3.

You COULD push it with maybe a couple more, but they'd be loose in the
bottom. Or stacked on existing drives which causes a heat problem.

The bottom bay (I think) has room vertically for two, but as Jeff G. writes, you've got a heat problem if you stack them. I got a couple of those right angle brackets with the little screw holes at the hardware store and put one or two (can't remember) on each side of the drives. The angle holds one drive above the other drive with a good separatation. If you just use the straight flat plates with the screw holes, the top drive tends to rotate forward or back and end up on top of the bottom drive. Then I put a small adhesive backed CPU fan (probably a 486 fan) in the front of the bay blowing over the drives.

Note that there are at least two types of right angle brackets at the hardware store. There's the kind that wedge into the corner formed by two pieces of wood. When viewed such that they look like an 'L' you are looking at the metal edge on. This is the wrong (and more common) type. There are also right angle brackets which lie flat but have a right angle. When you are viewing the 'L' with this type of bracket, you're also looking at the 1/2" width of the metal of the bracket. This is the type I meant.
