i now have the 8150 G3 running 9.0.4.
it has taken a long time so far but i need to know if there is any other cd
rom ext i can use as it was the cd/dvd ext that was freezing the 8150 out.
The cd rom can not be used unless i disable the max power card via the extensions manager first. then reboot .
what can i do.

If you can get your hands on a third party CDROM utility, try that instead of Apple's extension. I've been using FWB's CDROM Toolkit with no problems.
