Thanks for responding, I do have a cheetah 15,000 rpm 36GB drive here. A bit overkill for what I am doing. So if I put in the card and drive, install OSX I do not have to partition it down to 8 gb???? Did I understand you right.
Thanks

Well, that's not an ATA card, that's an Ultra160 SCSI card. If you have or want to buy Ultra160 SCSI drives, then yes that would overcome the 8 GB limitation. (Also note that I've never been too happy with Adaptec's OS X drivers.) However, if you have ATA drives, or don't want to pay the premium cost for buying Ultra160 SCSI drives, then no, that won't help. ATA (in older versions it was also called IDE, or EIDE) drives are much cheaper and unless you are on the bleeding edge of expense they are typically faster. The internal drive that shipped with the beige G3 is ATA, and whatever drive you have in there currently must also be ATA if you've got that 8GB limitation.
For example, the link below has several ATA adapters sold by Sonnet, some of which are made by Acard, others are made by Promise: http://sonnettech.com/product/pci_adptrs.html
Here is Acard's site (not terribly user friendly): http://www.acard.com/eng/

I wrote:No, upgrading the processor won't help do what you want. If you want
to get around the stupid 8 GB OS X boot partition limitation, you need
to buy a new ATA card. This will also help speed up disk input and
output, since the ATA built-in to the motherboard is now quite dated.
I like the Acard ATA cards, btw.
