There were rumors of it working somewhere, but I haven't seen any special
instructions or hacks (for getting it to work in Nubus PowerMacs) or been
able to make it work myself.

If you go here to his blog, you can read that the author of OS 9 Helper is
considering "next steps" for his utility, and support for Nubus PowerMacs is
#2 on the list. He says this support "should be fairly easy."

So there is hope.

On the other hand, will support for 9.2 be worthwhile on the first-gen
PowerMacs? According to os9forever.com, the key advantages of 9.2.x over
9.1 are:

* Compatibility with ATI's latest drivers. Or put another way,
compatibility with OpenGL 1.2.2 (9.1 has 1.2.1). Well, we don't need the
ATI drivers and the usefulness of OpenGL without hardware video acceleration
is pretty limited (the Open GL extensions are disabled on my 8100/G3).

* You can't run DVD Studio Pro 1.5 or 1.2.1.  I'd say that's an N/A.

* You can't run Final Cut Pro 3. Another N/A.

* Full compatibility with first and second generation iPods. Ditto.

But the OS 9 Helper web page also says that 9.2 Finder is faster and Open
Transport is more stable, so perhaps there some reasons for trying to
upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2 on the ol' PowerMacs, if a reliable process became
available.
