It is not true as a blanket statement that a beige G3/233 cannot use slave drives. In reality, there are three different ROM revisions used in the beige G3s. You can use Apple System Profiler to figure out which ROM your particular beige G3 uses. Rev A: $77D.40F2 / Rev B: $77D.45F1 / Rev C: $77D.45F2. Only the Rev A ROM cannot use slave drives. Rev B and C ROMs can use a slave drive with no problem.
As far as booting from a slave drive, if you are using OS 9 or any previous Mac operating system, you should have no problem booting from any drive or any size partition. If you are referring to booting OS X, then not only can you not boot from a slave drive in a beige G3, but you must boot from a partition which is within the FIRST 8 GB of the master drive.
BTW, this is the list for the First PowerMacs, in other words, the Nubus PowerMacs. The beige G3 is three generations later.

Hello
Two questions:
1) I read that the G3 233 DT cannot boot from a "slave drive." Can someone define the term? Does it mean the unit cannot boot from external hard drives?
I have one of these in transit and am gathering info. I have three external
SCSI hard drives that I would like to use with this.
2) Is there a PCI card available that would give me a USB port?
Thanks.
Dick
