The cpu on my 7100/80 is listed at 200+ watts. That adds up to more than 5k watts per day. I used to power it down with the Sleeper program when not in use, which switched off the hd but still kept both cooling fans blowing.
Question: How much wattage is saved in the sleep mode, if the circuitry is still kept hot. I wanted to save wear and tear on the power supply, but I think it has cost me considerably more than the unit is now worth, over the years. Since I will be replacing the old PM with a G3, I have been shutting down completely lately, but I'm wondering how much wattage I have been saving and wonder if I should do that with the G3 DT. I'm trying to calculate the trade off of wear on the G3 power supply vs. keeping it hot in the sleep mode. Any ideas? -- 1st-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
