Glenn & Jeff, I recall a problem (on 6300) with same symptoms & worse, RamDoubler not loading after booting from another volume & then rebooting from main drive. Someone sent me startup cp ver 7.7.7 which worked under both 9.0.4 & 9.1 as well as solving the RD problem. I later tried cp from 9.2.2 & it also worked with both. If you want 7.7.7 or 9.2.2 let me know & I'll send either or both off list. Worth a try. BobT

Is there a newer Newer extension or another >G3 cache enabler that will work? I have run into this problem on PCI PowerMacs as well. I think that the OS 9.1 Start-up Disk CP is just screwy. This happens even on normal PCI PowerMacs with no bizarre, unusual or hacked upgrades installed. A related (I think) symptom is that sometimes the OS 9.1 CP will let me change the start-up disk, but then when I restart it just goes to the default disk, i.e., whichever one it finds first (lowest SCSI ID on lowest numbered SCSI bus?) with an operating system on it. It's like it has completely lost the ability to store the start-up disk in the PRAM. Yes, my battery is fine. My workaround is to open the System Folder on my OS8.6 volume and use the Start-up disk CP from that folder. Even though it is not in the currently active system folder, it still works. At least it does on a PCI PM. I haven't had to try it on any of my NuBus machines yet. I would just replace the OS9.1 CP with the one from OS8.6 but the 9.1 CP seems to work about half the time.
