Your clue came in the statement, "the ribbon cartridge doesn't move an inch". IF this is true, the machine is in need of service. Now, please be sure you have more than one sheet of paper in the printer, and that there are no blinking lights when it tries to print. If the paper just continues to feed thru without the print head moving, I'm afraid there's a logic-board error in the printer. OR, the printer head is stuck.
