I have heard many accounts testifying to the success of such a venture. Let
me tell you my story. I bought two 128 Mb RAM chips for my 6116CD, and a
MAXPower G3 (266) card, then added a video card. It worked fine for a couple
of days, but when I installed 9.1 it went haywire. I removed the RAM,
removed the G3 card, reinstalled the system, removed the video. . .
I spent too much time, in other words. Even after I tried to go back to 8.6
from 9.1 I couldn't get it to boot. The MAXPower extension apparently
conflicted with something, but I never did figure out what.
Finally, it just quit booting without anything at all in it. I sold the RAM
(the purchaser assured me it worked fine for him when I wrote him to
inquire), put the G3 card in a box (I can't sell it because I can't verify
it isn't DOA, and I'm not going to buy another 61xx to find out), and
trucked the pizza box and monitor to the local thrift shop.
Then I took a vow.
Never again.
Your results could vary.
