GeoPort Telecom Adapter

Hello. I'm actually doing this as a favor for someone. He acquired a 
an external serial GeoPort Telecom Adapter. I imagine this works with 
a 6100? I do know it's  considered a road Apple but it works somewhat 
anyway.  I was doing a little reading and downloading some software 
to get this going and found myself somewhat confused. I downloaded 
Telecom 3.1.3 at the Apple web site. I also read "Apple Telecom must 
be installed on top of GeoPort 1.x drivers as an update" at some 
other website, although from the Apple web site read me regard 
Telecom 3.1.3, it doesn't say this.

Anyone ever use one of these Telecom adapter and get it to work? He 
just wants to play around with it.
