That is correct. However, 1.) AutoCAD is the de facto standard CAD platform and 2.) the programs from Ashlar are the closest equivalents in capability to AutoCAD at a similar price. VectorWorks is very good, but it is still not in the same class as the Ashlar products.
I want to have a copy of AutoCAD 2000 to stay familiar with the product. I prefer full up versions since that way, if I do need to do professional work, I am not limited by academic restrictions.
