I was at my local Goodwill last weekend, and they had this machine there (5300CD) for $5.00, and it was 50% off day, so I obtained a working machine for only $2.50! I was pretty sure this would have been a Road Apple according to LEM lists, and I was right. I tried it out in the store before I bought it, and it took about 5 minutes to boot. Of course, the previous owner had a lot of extensions and control panels clogging up the works, and after a clean install of OS 8.1, it seems to be a fairly decent machine.
The main problem I've got with it is that I don't know how to use the TV tuner that appears to be installed in it. It didn't have a remote control for it, so I just bought one from eBay. When I receive the remote, will I be able to turn the computer on with it? Will I be able to turn it on as a TV with it? The picture of the remote looked like it would control the CD-ROM as well. Will I be able to turn the CD player on and off with it? I guess what I'm asking is, can I access the TV and the CD player without having to boot the computer using the remote instead? If so, I'll probably never use the thing as a computer, but use it as a little entertainment center in my bedroom. Thanks, J White -- 1st-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
