Thanks, your info helped I moving along, so I would suppose that a cross over cable would have to go to the airport but the Paradyne DSL modem has only one port to go out and the Net Gear router has only 1 port for the DSL input the 4 others are for straight CAT5 out.
The graphite airport has only 1 input for Ethernet and one telco line for its internal modem, so logic would say you need a powered twisted cable or ???
Thanks
Geoff
right, there are "straight through cables", which are normally used between computers and
the hub or router, and crossover cables that switch the wire order for directly connecting
2 machines together or connecting a modem to a hub/router/switch. sorry i don't know much
about airport, but doubtless someone on the list will. you might do a google search for
"three macs and a printer", it's a web site that explains a lot about networking but the
url has changed since i last used it. you may also have to do some setup in the netgear
router, also, between the netgear router and the airport router you'll probably need
another cross over cable (straight cables between computers and routers, crossover cables
any time one router is connected to another router or modem, crossover cables can also be
used to directly connect 2 computers without a hub). i know there are several good sites
out there that explain networking, including those of many router companies. it does make
more sense with pictures.

Ok I am really Networking 101 So where I may have lost this is, between the Telcos DSL modem and the Net Gear Router Telco said I needed a twisted pair cross over cable, which I put in and I can now get one computer up on the router, my pismo.
So twisted pair cross over cable is different then twisted pair wire
Net Gear says to set up one computer on port 1 and the rest should go smooth Except airport does not want to play nice on any portGeoff-----------
