yeah, 8.0 is GARBAGE, i only ever, ever install it on the way to upgrading to 8.1 (it's a free update on apple's site). some 7100's will also take 8.6, but not all, it depends on the rom version (again, 8.5 is also bad except as a stepping stone to 8.6). apparently, with some help you can get os 9 on a 7100, but i don't know why you'd want to, it will slow things down and i've never needed it on my older machines.
