I can chime in on this.... At one time I had a 7100 G3 as my entertainment center Mac. OS 8.5 AND 8.6 resulted in numerous BUS errors. Additionally, I could not install the lastest version of my ISP for Macs, because of some quirky problem with this magic combo: (1) PowerMac 7100, (2) OS 8.6 and (3) AOL 5.0. Changing ANY ONE would work; but all three in concert made for non-operation. Spooky... AOL's suggestion was to downgrade to OS 8.1. Did so, and no more problems...
