Greetings Listers; I need to connect a KVM switchbox to use a 17" (Apple Multiscan) monitor between two (PPC 7300-200) machines. I've attempted five different (all apple brand) cables in the last month. Everything works fine on a 14" screen (through the switchbox), but when I step up, the bigger monitor(s) won't work. I've tried more than one monitor and more than one cable. I've tried the monitor direct connected to the video ports (Bypassing the kvm switch) and the monitor works fine sans switch too. The seller claims that the KVM switchbox has been used successfully on a 17" monitor and I don't have any reason to disbelieve him since he is a swaplist seller that I see on there regularly.
The machines are able to run the monitor(s) even as a three monitor panorama on one machine as long as the switch box is not connected. The switch box has no markings on it to even indicate a brand or anything of details about it. I am inclined to think that the cable itself is the problem....but five different ones of them??? If anyone can shed light on why this won't work, I'd be very interested in knowing. If there is a specific cable that I need to use, perhaps someone could identify the part number?
