The Dr. Bott KVM, which is the one which is applicable to ADB Macs, 
handles the video on a "pass-through" basis.

The Macs cannot tell what kind of monitor is actually there unless each 
one is provided with a dongle.

Putting the dongle on the output of the KVM is no good because only one 
Mac (the selected one) can see that dongle.
