the powerbook 1400 is the best powerbook ever made.
i served my band's website. mp3s.
served broadband to my house with ipnetrouter for YEARS.
the first generation ppcs are weak in comparison.
dif't chip. the 603e chip was a worker bean.
my cdrom is still original. floppy broke. burned cds. laid out a magazine in pagemaker, photoshop, pdf, print. another online pdf. numerous audio editing & recording sessions. watch video. play mp3s. run os9.1. wrote novels & poems on it. battery sucks. that's the problem, actually. but it's a great little unit. & a cheapy, just a couple grand for 133mhz, & G3 upgradeable! sweet. half the processor speed, WAY slower chip. it would take longer.

I am using a Performa 6116 CD, System 8.5, Sonnet G3 upgrade, to write this. I also have a PowerBook 1400cs, same system and a Sonnet G3 for it as well. Both are hooked on a LocalTalk network to a LaserWriter IIf that has more than 8 megs of memory (32 I think).

Here's the weirdness. If I print from the PowerBook, I have no problems. But if I print from the Performa, it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to print a simple project (like a half hour or longer sometimes). Same system, same control panels and extensions, used the same system 8.5 installation disk on the same day, did clean install.

When printing from the Performa, PrintMonitor spends a huge amount of time "Preparing data." From the PowerBook, zip, and it's done!

Does anyone have any suggestions?
