As a a standard matter of probing, I take out the RAM and disconnect the IDE
cable and floppy cable, a feat you can only accomplish by removing the front
plastic cover. 

With the hard disk and floppy disk out of the loop, try booting. Get a
chime? Get a grey screen?

If no, slide the motherboard tray out and look for damage at the connector
end. Check both sides.

If that's not it then you MAY have a bad motherboard.
