there may be another option in using a modern camera (e.g. USB only) with 1st powermac. There seems to be an indication that Microtech produced SCSI readers (internal or external) for PC Card (which can accomodate a CompactFlash or SmartMedia). See product codes here: http://www.psism.com/reader.htm#scsi
Alternatively, you could grab an older camera that, like your newer USB only camera, accepts CompactFlash but also sports a serial port. You could then put the CF card from the new camera into the old camera and then transfer pictures via serial to your 1st Mac.
