Are you sure your email program is not sending anything in the body of the message?
I used to just reply to the messages and they didn't stop either....
Yep, I've tried blank, not blank, intact subject line, subject line with just the number, number alone in the body with and without the subject, never did any good. Both now and at the time I've sent messages to myself to confirm it is blank body, and it's blank :)
