probably could be done with a diode and resistor (1k to 10k) to the +5v supply. neither nickel cadmium nor NimH like to be overcharged however and this will definitely damage it eventually. also, nicads do self discharge fairly quickly, usually within 1 month. a better idea would be to just use 3 alkaline double or triple "a" batteries in series, or if you can find a "gold cap" use that with the resistor and diode scheme to charge it. or ask the swap list, batteries can be had for $2+, i've even seen new ones in that price range. or $4-5 at radio shaft. remember, if you overcharge the batteries, they will eventually leak and damage things.
