Supported as made by Seagate, but not supported if originally sold to an
OEM with special OEM firmware.

Install the drive on the machine and boot from another drive, one which
has both Drive Setup and ResEdit. Make sure the drive spoools up, and
that Apple Syetem Profiler sees the drive.

Run Apple System Profiler and get the precise identifier for the
ST-12550N.

Then, launch ResEdit, opening Drive Setup, resource "fSCR". You will
notice there is an entry for "SEAGATE,12550N" as resource ID 506.

Copy that resource, and insert it as resource ID 128.

Then, open the newly created resource ID 128, and do a Get Information on
it (Commmand-I), and change the "Name" field to "SEAGATE,*" (without the
quotes, of course).

This will treat any SEAGATE SCSI drive as a Seagate ST-12550N, which is
pretty safe.

Now, if your drive was a renamed OEM drive such as "HP", change the
"Name" field to "HP,*", instead of "SEAGATE,*".

Finally, save this modified version of Drive Setup with a unique name,
exit ResEdit, and launch the special version of Drive Setup. Your OEM
drive should now be recognized.

I have used this technique to support many OEM drives, with good results.

If tall else fails, purchase Intech's initializer.
