The focus adjustment is hidden inside the case. You can drill a hole in the case to make it accessible without taking the back off. The hole needs to be drilled 4 1/4 inches to the right of the top right corner of the rectangle that encloses the power cord. My blog katsmacs.blogspot.com has info about this monitor -- click on the link "Fixing the 15-inch multiscan". The most common problem I've seen is loss of one color. Fixing that is not particularly easy, but can result in a perfect monitor that lasts a long time. The focus adjustment is easier (if you drill the hole), but tends to be a temporary stopgap before the monitor dies altogether. At the school we had one that gradually got worse as you describe. I adjusted it for best focus when warmed up, and left it powered on all the time. We got about a year of additional use out of it (running at 824x632 for viewing web pages). Then one day it just went totally dark -- no picture, no green light, no yellow light, nothing. http://katsmacs.blogspot.com/ -- 1st-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
