Hi Don and all; A dead Pram battery is a possiblity, as they can cause weird things with different systems. But the one thing that sticks out is your ATA setup. I have a Beige G3-300MT, so we'll see if we can get this sorted out. The Beige G3 has 2 ATA connectors on the MOBO marked J9 and J10. J9 is the primary (ATA bus 0) and J10 is the secondary ATA bus 1). If only one bus is used, you "must" use J9 for the boot drive. If both busses are used the boot drive goes on J9(ATA bus 0) jumpered as master (ID=0). The CD (if it is ATA (or ATAPI) goes on J10 (ATA bus 1) jumpered as master (ID=0). If the CD is set as slave you will not be able to boot from it. Try putting the CD back as master (ID=0) and the 4GB Quantum as slave (ID=1) and see if that works. Also check the termination on your SCSI drives. The last drive on the chain is the only one that should be terminated. If all this fails, remove all the drives (internal and external) except the boot drive (on the J9 cable, set to master-ID=0) and see if it'll boot. If it boots, put the CD back in on the J10 cable (set to master ID=0 and at the end of the cable and try to boot. If it boots, add the 4GB Quantum (set to ID=1) and try to boot. If it boots keep adding things one at a time and see if things go wonky again. This is the way mine is setup If I left anything out, I'm sure our resident G3 expert,<grin> Mr. PeterH will step in and clarify a bit more. HTH --Thanks; Rev.
