Don,
I believe you have to reverse the ATA bus one
Cd & hard drive so that the CD is primary (ID 0)
& the HD is secondary (ID 1).
You also have to have a rev b or better mobo/rom to
support multiple drives. A 300 mhz beige should be rev b
or better but wont hurt to check Apple Sytem Profiler to
see what it says your machine has.
