Yesterday I set up my 7100 after not using it for a while, and for some reason the AppleTalk control panel refuses to switch to ethernet. It reports, "An error occured attempting to use Ethernet." I am using an Apple Ethernet Twisted-Pair Tranciever which is connected to a hub using standard ethernet patch cable. Its not the cable's fault, because the cable that I am using was pulled from the Windows machine that sits next to it.. Any help would be appreciated. Andrew

If the cable is good, then the problem could be your transceiver, although I've never seen one fail.

It's also possible that one or more of the required extensions are missing. If you've got a removeable or external drive available, you might try putting a clean install on that drive and try booting from it and testing your Enet. If it works and your hard drive OS copy doesn't, that would imply that something is missing/corrupted/bad preferenced on your hard drive OS copy.

I'm assuming the hub is on before you power up the PM. If the hub is off, for some reason the Mac will decide no ENet was available at boot time. This is what leads to the three boot circus when connecting two (older) Macs by cross over cable. But you'll get the same effect if the hub isn't powered up before the Mac powers up.
