Referring to the below messages, the machine is a 7100/66, and the port has
been blown for about 3 months now with no other noticeable effects. It was
blown thru the modem by a lightning strike related power surge on the phone line.
Yes, if you can easily get the chip numbers and location on the board, that
would be very helpful.
Way back when in the Mac Plus day the chips were the 26LS30 and 2631 IIRC. They were definitely 26XX chips. I think the 26LS30 is the transmitter while the 2631 is the receiver. I haven't really checked lately if they are the same. They'll be near the MiniDIN 8 serial connectors. There is also a filter chip between the connector and the receiver chip. Anyway, it's a start.
Do I understand correctly that these receiver/driver chips can probably be ordered from computer parts warehouses and the like?
Also, I've yet to completely remove the board from this computer, and just
wondering, any tricks to getting it all the way out? All I've really done to it
so far is replaced memory, which required swiveling the drive cases up to
access the memory slots beneath.
