To Antonio and Chuck: Rebuilding the Desktop worked! The "Kind" entry is now correct. Thanks for your suggestions.
Actually, I used TechTool 1.19 to rebuild the desktop files of all my hard-disk partitions. I know that Chuck's method (Option and Command keys) should also work -- I have used it many times for floppy disks -- but for rebuilding my five hard-disk partitions, TechTool is easier.
