just a random thought, "wish i were" might let you install a usable system, it's shareware and should be available form the usual places, it lets you set the machine up to report a different "gestalt" than the true one which fools install software into thinking it's running on a different machine. this is essential for clock chippers, and i've used it to set up hard drives for other machines using my preferred machine to install the os and other software. it's possible that your' install problems are because someone had clock chipped that board or made some other modification to it that changed the gestalt value to something that isn't meaningful to the os install software. worth a try in any case. other wise look for tome viewer and manually install the os pieces (also shareware, lets you look inside the install archive and pull pieces out, widely used with os 9 on unsupported machines).
