Could be... but consider this. I have a Macintosh IIsi with a very weak (maybe even dead?) PRAM battery. The IIsi is always plugged in regardless of whether or not it is in use. Despite the state of the battery, I never lose my PRAM settings no matter how long a time elapses in between uses. It even keeps the correct date and time (the clock keeps running) while off. I also have a Macintosh Plus in which I have simply removed the battery altogether because the old one leaked and corroded the inside of the battery compartment. I haven't been bothered to try it clean it up yet so I just use it without a battery. Like the IIsi, the Plus is always plugged in. Also like the IIsi, the PRAM settings are saved indefinitely despite the presence of a battery. UNLIKE the IIsi, the clock seems to stop the second I turn off the Plus. The next time I boot up, the clock resumes from the exact day & time I last powered down. Occasionally I have had to unplug these computers to install new devices, rearrange my desk, clean, etc. Each and every time I unplug them, my PRAM settings are immediately lost and the both system's times revert to 12:00 on some day in 1956. Since this trickle of current is enough to keep my PRAM settings alive, leaving *these* Macs plugged in has obvious benefits. However, we all know there are some Macintosh models out there that won't even *turn on* without a fully charged PRAM battery. This indicates that the behavior observed in my IIsi & Plus shouldn't necessarily be taken as a general rule for all Macintosh models. But if I had to guess, I would suggest leaving your PowerMac plugged in all the time should (if nothing else) extend the life of your battery a bit. -Nat -- 1st-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
