Hey ANdrei, I'm afraid your out of luck if you want to run anything over OS 9 on an 8500-120. 9.2.2 should work just fine, if I'm not mistaken, but that's about as good as you're gonna get with that hardware.
On my G3-315Mhz OS 10.2 barely moves, while 9 and earlier just FLY. 10.2 seems (to me) to be about as fast on my G3 as Windows XP would be on a Pentium-133. I think the bare minimum for any version of 10 is a G3. It eats a lot of RAM, too, 128MB minimum I believe, according to Apple. I heard 10.3 is faster, but I haven't tried it. I can't imagine it would be that big a difference. In summary, go find yourself a copy of 9 or 8.5 and then use the updates on Apple's site to get to 9.2.2 or 8.6, respectively. -Nat On 4/20/05, ANdrei <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > talking to my teacher today about computers and my passion for them, I > mentioned that I occasionally got along Macs (which are VERY seldom here in > Eastern Europe) and that I love them... he then took me to one room and > showed me that they do have a mac there in my university, that just lies > around, with monitor and all the stuff, but never used... > > It's a 8500-120, I didn't turn it on yet and know nothing bout RAM/HDD... > > now I'm free to play with that thing :) what could be the highest OS I can > hope for? any chance for 10 or X? speed is not an issue, I just wanna see > how it looks like, as I have almost no software, and so I can't use it for > programming/video capture, though it is in the multimedia rooms (and I'm > actually studying multimedia)... > > tks! > ANdrei > --- > The question of whether computers can think is like the question of > whether submarines can swim.
