I wasn't aware of this bug ID so thanks for that. I think the final solution needs to cover more than just splashscreen though, as there are other uses of libjpeg elsewhere. I don't know about this patch by the bug reporter. The one in IcedTea is pretty unusable upstream; it removes the in-tree libraries and forces system libraries. That's fine for distros, but for OpenJDK we don't want to disrupt the status quo. I've been meaning to look at this for a while, but just haven't got round to it.
