SUBTONIC SOUNDSYSTEM

_live_

:Tono-Bungay
Way-out rock trio Tono-Bungay includes ex-Fire in the Kitchen guy Bob
Bannister and Robert Dennis, who have a solid understanding of experimental
music's history and therefore, we can trust them to direct us into the
their take on the future. Expect wild flights of improv noise.

:Hall of Fame
One of the leaders of today's psychedelic-folk scene, Hall of Fame conjures
benevolent demons and gentle spirits to guide a trip through the dimly lit
reaches of the inner world. The group's shambling, rattling beauty shows
that they can see both the forest and the trees.

:Timeblind
(aka Chris Sattinger) is one of the genreless beasts of the polar bear
club. He has put out over 30 records including the recent (and
particularily genreless) Bloatware EP (Orthlorng Musork) and the
Catacalysamajiggy EP (dropbeat). Live shows are done on a powerbook
running elaborate and dynamic signal manipulation software based on
illegally obtained alien software.

:Chessie
As the drum and bass, electronic music and experimental rock scenes
continue to both fracture and intermix, it is the rare artist who can
contribute meaningfully to each of these areas, and excel in doing so.
Chessie (a/k/a Stephen Gardner) is one of these unique artists. His 1996
album Signal Series (Drop Beat) is a masterpiece, without a doubt a
landmark achievement. His new album Meet (Drop Beat) goes so much farther
into the unknown that reasonable points of reference become harder to find.

:DJ Olive
The man responsible for transmuting turntables into 'lectronic smoke signal
processors of a very future variety.

:So Takahashi
With his debut release Nubus on New Yorkís Car Park label, Takahashi has
made a distinct mark in the pulse+click wing of electronic music.
Takahashiís live performance embarks the exploration of microsound and
subsonic frequencies.

:Criterion
Creates loop-based music incorporating manipulated, processed, shifting
rhythms. His debut 12" Root Canal which will be out in May on his own
Broklyn Beats, reflects his emphasis on live electronic improvisation.

:Raz Mesinai
(a/k/a Badawi, a/k/a the Bedouin) was first introduced to Middle Eastern
drumming at age seven by dervish sheik Murshid Hassan. As a child, he spent
time in the Sinai Desert with the Bedouins, and in drumming circles with
Yemenite and Moroccan Jews, during which he learned a wide range of
percussion instruments. He went on to collaborate with bassist John Ward as
Sub Dub and record a solo album on ROIR, entitled Bedouin Sound Clash. He
is now considered one of the best dub/reggae DJs in NewYork.

:ferris_wheel
(Taketo Shimada & Toshio Kajiwara) employs collage techniques to extend the
historical perception of musical process. Their performances and
site-specific sound pieces involve live electronics, sound synthesis and
concrete-music techniques.

:<o>blaat
Will be settting up the stompbox processed ping-pong table once again! This
will be your last chance to see and participate in the 'beat piece' until
some generous folks giving me some funds to upgrade it;) "Come down and
play ping-pong for with me!" You'll be a part of the 'strange but
super-intriguing' ambience altogether!

_dj sets_

:I-Sound
Whom's involvement with such projects at the Ambush label, To Rococo Rot,
and Roots & Wires will be implementing electronic sounds and improvising in
dj context.

:Jason Williams
Subtext resident techno explorer Jason Williams (a/k/a Velocette) has
recorded for Jonah Sharpís legendary Reflective Records and Williams' very
own imprint Parallel will be in dj mode delivering an assortment of
techno-soul and jack tracks from the library of Babylon.

:Two Lives
The polar bear club's resident hack-of-all-trades sees music not as
different forms, but rather as one heaving mass of spirit, love and
ecstasy. But really though, it's just records.

:Nein Volt vs. Markus Miller
Subtext residents Markus Miller and Nein Volt take on 3 turntables, 2
mixers and a maze of modular effects to re-texture their sparse records.
