Since this has been a topic of late, I got this from a friend at the
Michigan Film Office. It's an official list of feature films in
Michigan. I know that it was mentioned that a lot of films are made
outside like Hollywood, but today that's different. Many of the films
today are being shot in Canada due to the weaker Canadian dollar and the
numerous discounts being offered by the film companies there. It's
making it tough for US crews to get the work, but there are some coming
up to look out for here in Michigan. For example, '61, the new Billy
Crystal directed HBO flick, Chasing Sleep w/ Jeff Daniels and Gil
Bellows (filmed in Jackson and Stockbridge) and Nobody Knows, just
wrapped last weekend, small budget, but with a # of B list actors: Barry
Corbin (Maurice on Northern Exposure), Bruce Campbell, Ralph Waite (dad
on Walton Family), Larry Drake (LA Law, also numerous villains including
the Darkman bad guy). Anyone catch the movie "Groove", a documentary on
raves? I've seen a few newsclippings, but haven't seen if it's going to
be released anywhere. It did well at Sundance and I think was eventually
picked by Sony?
