I know for a fact "Grosse Point Blank" wasn't filmed in the D or Grosse
Point.
Since it was an "indie movie", they only had enough $$$ to film overhead
shots
of the city and parts of Jefferson Ave. Instead the movie was shot in a
town similar to Gross Pointe Park. I think it was GPP. Whatever the
real rich GP city is. Anyways, like most movies that have Detroit as a
reference or as a primary location, they never shoot there b/c of budget or
what
Alan has mentioned. This was the same for "True Romance". They shot some
scenes in the city. You'll notice them when you watch the movie. The only
person who i can think of that really involves Detroit still is Elmore
Leonard.
"Out of Sight" is based on his novel. He's an ex-Detroiter. All of his
books
take place in Detroit or Miami. I could be wrong on this, but the ones i
have
read have these two cities as the location.
With the new baseball stadium and it's by-products, I'm just sure will see
Hollywood swarming downtown for "on location" shots.
Ethan
-who saw Hollywood once and hope he never sees it again. That place can be
scarier than the D.
