Agreed that the er1 is a great sounding machine and has a very nice
interface (the step sequencer is great).  But it should be pointed out that
it is very aptly named as a rhythm *synth*, not a drum machine.  Yes, it
makes drum sounds (and lots of other wierd stuff), but you have to
program/patch them in.  Not exactly difficult, but it does not operate like
a typical drum machine; there are no individual sound selections.  Lots of
people don't mind this, but it should be noted for anyone actually looking
for a drum 'machine'.  It's built more for screw-around-and-see-what-happens
than it is for building drum-only patterns.
