Hello,

Industrial is the red headed step-child of Detroit Techno. The hard
minimal end of Detroit would not exist without it. A lot of people want
to say that Mills was a hip-hop DJ, but they neglect to mention that he
and UR got their Interfisch/Tresor connection through his Industrial
group Final Cut. UR and Plus8 both definitely owe a debt to industrial
music, albeit only in their very early recordings. I know there are
probably more than a couple people on this list who got their start in
electronic dance music from old Wax Trax records.

In hindsight a great deal of that stuff did not date at all, but it
still captures the time for me. It is not cool in 2000 to admit to
liking that stuff(did I like Ministry? Heavens no, I was into Sun Ra and
Coltrane when I was 13 ;) You really have to give it credit, in its time
it definitely did have an influence. These days the only stuff I can
still listen to is old Mute and IR stuff from the 70's/early 80's, but
that is a different thread...

AO, what have you got to say about old industrial stuff from way back
when?

Take care,
Mike
