First of all I'm not coming, even though everyone assumed I'd be there. I'm just getting over a herniated disk, am running a club night tonight, and have about 10 tracks I need to mix down.
There is a large group of people coming up from Iowa City -- Vince, Tristan, Mary, etc -- if you run onto them make them feel as welcome as I felt in Detroit -- I'll be up there in June to hook up with people... I've heard from People Who Know that there are some hurt feelings about not being asked to play at the Festival, and Alan's essay at http://www.puresonikrecords.net/ Which seems to address this pretty head on. I guess I just want to ask that despite any misunderstandings, oversights, real or perceived slights, that people try and put aside the egos and politics for the weekend. Politics always happens -- people's feelings always get hurt. I've been the hurtee and the hurter in the past, believe me. But any of the grumbling and carping detracts from an event as special as DEMF. What is special is NOT the DJs and live performers, though they're of course great. It's not about who goes to whose party, or who fucks who, or who steals from who. It's about the brilliance that has arisen from the rubble in the last 15 years in Detroit. It's about Carl FINALLY getting the City to wake up to the treasure that's been hidden there in plain sight for so long. And it's about the fans who are getting on planes around the Chicago, Miami, New York, Schipol, Berlin, and London. The ones climbing into the cruisers for an all day car ride just to finally be there and share for a couple days in the vibe. Anyway y'all have a great time & see you in June... kent williams -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
