Well not that new in Berlin I guess, but definately a sound I haven't
heard in North America. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it so I'll
just transcribe the notes on a CD I have called "2080 the eighties now"

The eighties are back. This CD proofs that it's not only about vocoder
and computer game sounds, but also about vocals in a "new wave" style,
straight funky beats ... and noises and shouts reminding us of good old
times of punk music. "2080" give an impression of this wide range of
"80es mania" in German club scene.

The tracks seem to come from a variety of labels, like Ladomat and
Payola and the music is the definitive sound of Berlin's hottest club,
WMF, and of their signature residents Highfish and Derringer (SP?)

The interesting part is the demographic of the music, as it is pumping
and serious like techno but fun and playful like house, which means that
the usualy crufty crowd of late 20-30 something urban hipsters can get
into it without the rave/techno stigma or clubkid/house bullshit and
just have a good time, which everybody seems hellbent on doing.
