I think Cyclone and Emma have said the basics here. Its a topic that can be debated and tossed back and forth a lot.
There are LOTS of women on 313 who lurk who have incredible knowledge and know how, who -I think -feel somewhat intimidated by this list (god knows why;) or just don't bother to post.
Let me just say that the happenings in NYC this past weekend, I feel, were a very strong reflection on how many of the barbaric attitudes that we thought had evolved-have not. Especially since alot of cops sat around nearby picking the cob webs outta their nose (read:ass) while women were assaulted.
Its sick that when I'm out with a male techno friend that I'm automatically assumed to be the DJ Groupie/whore,or just some girl (we know the look)...its sicker that I've gotten used to it, and in order to gain an inkling of respect I have to trainspot or lay down a sentance of knowledge. Or when I shake a guy's hand he says "thats a mighty strong hand shake for a girl" Please, fool.
I will say this. As for being a woman-I am 100% proud of the sexuality that comes with it. curves, brains, intuition and all.I am proud that I come with these insticts that men will never understand, and I know how to use them to my advantage. Not only does it get me drinks but it lets me feel rythem and funk from a deeper place.I will never comprise "looking like a girl" so I can be respected a bit more by some asshole whose mother didn't give him the full 411 (and that asshole can be male or female). BTW Not all men are asses-and thats not what this thread should be taken as. Alot of men respect and recognize and encourage.
Anyways, this post could go in 100 differant directions in the same time. I know that I look up to women _like_ Laura G,K.Hand,Minx and Linda, and DJs like Tamara (seattle), Magda and so on, and the women at Pop Culture Media who continue to stick up for themselves and not comprimise, who break stereotypes and limits. Its because of these women that attitudes have changed.
ok,thats it.im tired. Diana ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
