Greets all,

"I am presently working on some psych-socio theory on repetition in music and
why its an attractor to some, and an utter bore to others. I was wondering if
there is already some theory, be it music theory and/or psycho-social theory,
in which asks and solves this question..."

I was just discussing this with a friend of mine. Warning: pop culture
analysis follows. I have a feeling it may have a little to do with the natural
states people's brains function in. People seem to get into their space at
different bpm's- for me it is 120-140bpm, for others it is slower or faster.
I've been working on an experiment in trying to time techno with
gysin/burroughs dream machine, similar to what throbbing gristle did back in
the late 70's with more up to date music.

Also tied along with this is the very vague definition of attention span. If
you are used to 3:00 ska tunes, your initial exporsure to repititios electronic
music is likely to be negative. If you listen to other styles of music that
have these ideas already in them, such as classical, jazz, & some ambient, i
think techno might open up like the proverbial flower. A good example of
repitition in an older style of musick woul be beethoven's "ode to joy," hell
the entire 9th symphony in fact. Also J. Paap's ambient excursion from last
year.

Please keep in mind that these are just some ideas that I have tossed around,
they are by no means completely formulated in my own head.

oh well out for now
